January is Board of Education Recognition Month! Board Member Spotlight: Aaron Yoakam
January is School Board Appreciation Month! Please join us as we show appreciation to our school board members for volunteering their time and advocating on behalf of every child in our community. We will be featuring each school board member on the website throughout the month.
Today's spotlight will be on our Lansing USD469 Board Member Aaron Yoakam.
Aaron Yoakam was elected to the Lansing USD469 Board of Education in 2019 and previously served as President of the Board. Although he has only served on the board for four years, Mr. Yoakam said that it feels like ten with the pandemic. He grew up in Lansing and attended the Lansing School District from kindergarten through twelfth grade. He attended Pittsburg State University, moved back to the Lansing area after college, and is currently working as the Director of Building and Grounds for Leavenworth County. Mr. Yoakam is married to Felicia Yoakam, who used to teach in the Lansing School District. They have two sons and a daughter.
Mr. Yoakam has spent countless hours volunteering in our community. In addition to serving on the Lansing USD 469 School Board, he has been a youth wrestling coach, youth baseball coach, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and serves on the Consolidated Water District #1 Board of Directors.
"My initial reason for running for the school board was to expand the CTE programs and to support Lansing’s growth in education as the continuous change in expectations from the State and Federal government make education difficult for our staff."
