Announcing the Lansing USD469 Elementary Teacher of the Year - Christina Mills (VIDEO)
Lansing USD469 is thrilled to announce Christina Mills as its 2023 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Mills is a third-grade teacher who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in her work with students. Mrs. Mills will be recognized for her achievement at the Lansing Educational Foundation Honors Breakfast on Friday, May 5th. As part of her award, Mills will receive four tickets to attend the event and a grant for $250 to be used at Lansing High School.
Mrs. Mills was nominated for the award by several colleagues who praised her as a caring and engaged teacher who goes above and beyond to support her students. According to one colleague, "Christina always goes the extra mile to help her students and to be sure every student is included in EVERY activity. She creates a classroom that is a true community of caring individuals."
In addition to her work as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Mills has also served as a team leader and a member of the master schedule planning committee. She was also instrumental in planning for an inclusive playground that would benefit all students in the school.
Mrs. Mills' colleagues noted her skill as an educator and her ability to create a structured and engaging classroom atmosphere. "She has that 'teacher ability:' she's aware of student needs as they arise, and keeps a calm and cool demeanor - which in turn helps students feel safe and thrive," said one colleague.
Mrs. Mills's dedication to her students and school community has made her a beloved and respected teacher in the Lansing School District. "Christina Mills is an exceptional teacher, and I am nominating her for Teacher of the Year. She has many amazing qualities as both an educator, colleague, co-worker, and friend," said another colleague.
