May 9, 2022 Board of Education Recognition: Christina Hoverson and Pete Hamilton
Lansing USD469 would like to congratulate Lansing High School Interventionist Christina Hoverson and student Pete Hamilton for being our May Board of Education Staff Member and Student of the month!
Ms. Hoverson, who was unable to attend because she was covering for a softball game at Lansing High School, was selected for being a stand-out employee at Lansing High School:
"Ms. Hoverson loves her students and is willing to do what is needed to help them succeed. She understands that there is not a one size fits all approach, and the fact she is teaching smaller class sizes benefits the students greatly. The Lion Academy that was started last year is amazing, and she carries much of those concepts over in to her math tier classes for sophomores. Not sure what my child will do if she is unable to have Ms. Hoverson as a teacher next year. I am not exaggerating when I say I probably would not have survived my husband's last deployment without her help."
"Chris goes above and beyond for her students in every way. She truly meets each kid where they are at. She doesn't just think about the content. She makes sure the kid is in a healthy mental state to be able to learn, overcomes obstacles and challenges with them, and celebrates successes like no-one else! On the other end, she is a true support for staff. If a staff member needs something day or night she is there. When staff members don't understand something or are stuck in a process, she is there to walk you through it in a logical manner that lets you understand. She is not overpowering but gently powerful. Chris is non-judgmental, compassionate, fun, loyal, and VERY honest. She makes you feel like you won the lottery everyday. Chris is always here to support, encourage, and teach the students and staff at LHS, but she also supports others at the District Leadership level. She is always celebrating others, I think it is time that we all celebrate her too. Lets make her feel like she won the lottery in us."
Pete was nominated by a teacher who chose him for his positive attitude and volunteer work:
"I believe Pete should be recognized because, in my opinion, he embodies the heart of a Lansing Lion. He's always polite and respectful, a hard worker, and a good friend to his peers. I've had Pete in class for the past six years, and he has been a joy to have in class. He has volunteered when needed and always keeps a positive attitude. I've never seen him in a bad mood. Pete works really hard and gives his all in everything that he does. Not only does he work to improve himself, I've seen him show empathy and support to his fellow classmates on many occasions. One of the most impressive things I've seen Pete do is organize a food drive to coincide with our summer marching band camp last July. He was able to collect over 800 items in one week, encouraging his bandmates to donate. We were blown away by the amount of items that he collected. That's not all he has done, he is a leader in the school and has helped organize several different activities and drives throughout the past school year. Above all, Pete deserves to be recognized because he is an all-around great person. We have enjoyed having him as a student and know that he will do great things when he leaves Lansing High School."
