Program Overview |
The Lansing Early Childhood program serves children ages 1-5 (if not eligible for kindergarten) within one of several programs (listed below).
All students receive a high quality early childhood program that is developmentally appropriate - meaning appropriate to age and to each individual child.
If you have concerns about your 3-5 year old child's development (if not eligible for kindergarten), Lansing offers screenings once a month in the areas of cognition, speech/ language, motor, social, vision, and hearing.
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and Peer Model Program
ECSE provides services for children who meet eligibility requirements for Special Education. Eligibility is determined through screening and evaluation. Special education services are provided within an ECSE classroom or by appointments within the center or community. Services could include occupational therapy, speech/language therapy, physical therapy, and vision/hearing services.
The peer model program includes developmental classrooms for children who pass a developmental screening and/or comprehensive evaluation performed by the ECSE team to rule out the need for special education services. Peer models provide a model for children identified with special needs by demonstrating age-appropriate skills and behaviors within a classroom environment.
The No-Fee Pre-K program is a preschool opportunity for children ages 4 & 5 years old (not yet eligible for kindergarten) to engage in classroom activities with an emphasis on kindergarten readiness. The program requires an application and eligibility determination.
Parents as Teachers provides home visits, group connections, developmental screenings, connections to community resources, and playgroups. The program equips parents with knowledge and resources to prepare their children for a stronger start in life and greater success in school. Also serving children ages 3-5, not yet eligible for kindergarten.
The Infant Toddler program evaluates for all areas of development and provides Early Intervention services for infants/toddlers in the home and refers families to community resources for child care and community settings, all at no cost to families living in Leavenworth County.
Transportation |
Early Childhood and PreK parents are required to approach the bus and meet at the curb or the driveway of the bus stop. This will ensure the bus can provide transportation to and from the safest, street location closest to student’s doorstep.
