March 7, 2022 Board of Education Recognition: Dr. Jennifer Kolb and Sophomore Justin Shields
During the February 14, 2022 board meeting, the Lansing USD469 Board of Education voted and approved recognizing one stand-out staff member and student at the beginning of the regularly scheduled board meetings.
Lansing USD469 would like to congratulate Lansing Elementary School Interim Principal Jennifer Kolb and sophomore Justin Shields for being our March Board of Education Staff Member and Student of the month!
Dr. Kolb's nominees chose her for stepping up this school year to fill the position of interim principal and being a strong leader:
"Dr. Kolb assumed a difficult task taking on the Elementary Principal responsibilities halfway through the school year. Her leadership skills allowed for a seamless transition and critical buy-in by the staff of the Elementary School. Although a first-year Vice-Principal, she, in my opinion, has done a wonderful job leading the school with little or no help."
"Dr. Kolb has been principal at LES for the past few months. She has done very well at keeping things running smoothly during all the absences from staff and students when COVID numbers were high. She does lunchroom duty every day- she even helps wipe down the tables between each grade level. She attends meetings, helps students when they are dis-regulated, and helps staff as they continue to do their best for all students. Dr. Kolb has done all of this and more and always with a smile on her face. She is always patient, understanding, and kind with everyone she comes in contact with. LES is truly blessed to have her!"
Sophomore Justin Shields was nominated by a staff member who spoke to his involvement, leadership, and ability to overcome adversity.
"Justin is in the 10th Grade at Lansing High School. He is a student in our Deaf Education Program. Justin excels academically. He is active in both football and wrestling at the high school. Recently, Justin competed at the State level for wrestling in Wichita, Kansas. While representing Lansing High School, he was the only deaf student from the State of Kansas to qualify to participate in the State Wrestling Tournament. He is an inspiration to all who interact with him. He demonstrates fantastic sportsmanship combined with a personality that makes him an excellent role model for his peers."
Thank you to board members Jeff Bolin, Carla Wiegers, and Aaron Yoakam for serving on the BOE Recognition Committee.
