Lansing High School Students Take Civic Engagement Field Trip
AP Government students visited the Truman Library on Wednesday, October 25th with teachers Michael Basler and Mick Johnson. Students were able to participate in the White House Decision Center student simulation.
"The White House Decision Center is a unique venue for experiential and collaborative learning," said Mr. Basler. "Set in a recreated West Wing, The White House Decision Center challenges students to step into the roles of President Truman and his advisors to tackle some of the greatest challenges ever faced by a world leader. The White House Decision Center is designed to complement a rigorous course of study and to meet national standards for grades 6-12."
Our Lansing High School students prepared for and participated in the "1948 Berlin Blockade Crisis" that President Truman and his advisors faced. Students researched various roles and made real time decisions that included staff meetings, 2-press conferences, recommendations to the president and a Presidential briefing. This was a hands-on learning day for our students that provided them with the opportunity to experience a small portion of what our country's leaders go through.
"It was a blessed day of learning for our students, and they received high praise from the Truman library staff for their work and performance throughout the daily activities," said Mr. Basler. "We are looking forward to taking the AP US History & Spring AP Government classes back in March of 2024."
