Champions Again: Lansing Lions Capture 2024 UKC Baseball Title! (VIDEO)
The United Kansas Conference baseball season concluded with Lansing emerging as the 2024 UKC Baseball Champions! The Lions finished the UKC with an impressive 14-2 record in conference play. Overall, the Lions are 16-8 as they prepare for postseason play this week. This is the first UKC Conference title and the second conference title in Coach Basler's tenure as the head coach of the Lions. The team won the KVL title 7 years ago on the same date, May 9th, 2017.
"I was not aware that we accomplished this seven years to the exact date until I got a congratulatory text from former Lansing Baseball alum Eliot Wilk," said Coach Basler. "It was great to hear from former players who have meant a lot to our program and culture, still connected and keeping track of our team."
Both teams had one major similarity as they made their run to the title:
Each had to win several games in a row to finish the regular season and claim the title. In 2017, the Lions had to win eight games in nine days. This season, in 2024, they had to win six games in eight days.
"We talked to the team about this before we started this 6-game stretch; we are going to have to play six Game-7's in order to win the title. We said the same thing to the 2017 team. It was really exciting to see our players prepare and go after each of these games. Different guys had to step up and make plays in the run. I'm extremely proud and happy for our guys. This is something they will remember for the rest of their life."
Great work, Coach Basler and players!!!
