Lansing High School Senior Jacob Mitchell Named a Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program
Lansing USD469 is incredibly proud to announce that Lansing High School Senior Jacob Mitchell has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist. This honor places him in the top 1% of U.S. high school seniors!
Over 1.3 million juniors from 21,000 high schools entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
Jacob is now one of 16,000 semifinalists continuing in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors can continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Jacob must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition based on his skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
