Question: How long have you worked for Lansing USD469?
Answer: This is my 7th school year in the district.
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I have two daughters that are currently in 8th and 12th grade. We moved to Lansing when my husband retired from the Army in 2015. I have been an active volunteer since that time, mostly in the PTA and Site Council. I worked as a substitute teacher for a few years before working full-time in the library.
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: My favorite thing about my job is getting to know the students. Our schools are full of amazing kids! It is very rewarding when you can help them find a book that they will enjoy reading. Also, who wouldn't enjoy working around books all day!
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: I love reading, of course! I enjoy spending time with my family and my two dogs. I am a huge animal lover. I also enjoy traveling and volunteering in the community.
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: I graduated from high school in Amman, Jordan and my senior class only had 27 people.
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: I've had many, but my favorite thing is when a student goes out of their way to come in to say hello or brings in a sweet note or picture they made for me. It just makes my day!
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: Be yourself and find your strengths and gifts that make you happy. Also, learning doesn't stop at graduation. It's a lifelong journey!
