Kansas Teachers of the Year visit Lansing School District on January 29th
Lansing USD469 was thrilled to host the Regional Kansas District Teachers of the Year from Spring Hill, Blue Valley, and Bonner Springs on Monday, January 29th. The group toured our buildings with Lansing's 2022 teacher of the year, Mr. Brian J. White.
They started the day at Ten & Two Coffee Shop and were provided a light breakfast and coffee to start their day. Thank you to our transportation department and bus driver, DJ Showers, for transporting the group throughout their visit. The first stop was the Lansing District Office, where they met with Superintendent Kobza and took a tour of the district office. They then visited the Lansing Early Childhood building, where Principal Dr. Becca Dalton showed them around our PreK and Daycare facilities and introduced them to several of our outstanding staff.
They were then transported to Lansing Elementary School, where they met with Principal Dr. Jennifer Kolb, Instructional Coach Jenny Nickelson, Counselor Christine Bachtel, and Interventionist Holly Kane to hear a presentation on our SIT process and how we best meet our students' educational needs. After the presentation and a tour of our elementary building, they visited Lansing Intermediate School, where Principal Martin Altieri showcased his building, stopping by several classrooms so the group could see some of the fantastic things happening in our buildings each day. They also learned about our PRIDE Assemblies and the ways we encourage and support a positive culture among our students and staff.
Their final stop in our district was Lansing High School, where Ms. Stephanie Phelps and our culinary arts students provided lunches to the group. Once the group was finished with lunch, they headed to the auditorium, where they heard a presentation by Mr. Brian J. White and then a performance by our Legacy Singers, who have been honored to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) All-State Convention on February 23rd. The teachers then had a chance to sit with the students to hear their perspectives on how choir has positively impacted them and how strong teachers have helped shape their lives. After being interviewed by AV Communications students Bekah Tanner and Aaron Tierney for The Roar, our student broadcast, the teachers took a tour of our high school facilities and ended their day back at Ten & Two.
On behalf of Lansing USD469, congratulations to Brian J. White (Lansing HS, vocal music), Emily Veer (Spring Hill HS, sports medicine), Sydney Goldman (Spring Hill HS, Art), Katie Karst (Blue Valley district, Kindergarten), and Morgan Bradford (Bonner Springs district, elementary music)! It was a pleasure getting a chance to meet each of them and see why their respective districts chose them for being the best of the best!
