Lansing High School Advanced Studies students secure win at Bridge Building Competition at UMKC
Lansing High Advanced Studies students competed in the annual Roo Builders Bridge Building Competition on February 9 on the UMKC campus under the direction of gifted facilitator Julie Hinckley. Judging was based on the following criteria:
30 Points: Load Carrying Capacity Prior to Failure
20 Points: Load/Weight Efficiency Ratio Prior to Failure
15 Points: Aesthetics
The students have been working on their designs since September and were able to test them in Pierson Auditorium on the UMKC campus Saturday morning. Freshmen Houston Crow, AJ Escalante, and Tim Neal took third place with their bridge design. Juniors Cam Burns, Logan Hope, Isaiah Sterling, and Alyssa Weigers secured first place, as well the Rising Star (Judges' Choice) Award. The win qualified the team to the Forty-Second International Bridge Building Challenge to be held on April 06, 2019 in Baltimore, Maryland.
