LIS Welcomes to Alicia Kheir and Jennifer Calixte to the SPED Team!
We welcome two members of our LIS SPED team that have joined us this school year, Alicia Kheir and Jennifer Calixte. A little more about them:
Alicia:
"My name is Alicia Kheir and I am beginning my 27th year of teaching. My husband and I have been married for 16 years and we have 6 children, with my daughter being the youngest and 4 grandchildren, 2 of which are in college - 1 is at KU Rock Chalk Jayhawk. We also have 2 dogs, one of which is an service dog for my daughter. I love to play games, crochet, and watch movies. I come from a military family, my dad was Navy and my brother was Air Force, plus I have cousins and other relatives that have served as well. I have lived in or visited 21 states. I am excited to be teaching 4th grade interrelated and I'm looking forward to a great year!"
Jennifer:
"It’s a pleasure to be working with and serving the Lansing Schools this school year. I will be primarily supporting LIS and LMS, with other duties as assigned and requested by the special education department. We recently moved back to the KC area by way of Iowa, through Louisiana, after being in Nebraska. We were in each state about 2 years, before coming back to “The Kingdom” this summer! (Go CHIEFS!!!)
I’m a learner at heart, and love the process of experiencing new ideas and content. Truly a lifelong learner. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Love my alma mater so much, I went back to earn an Ed.S in School Psychology and later a MA.E in Educational administration with Supervision in Special Education. I also hold a J.D. from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
I’ve worked in a plethora of school districts with various student populations and needs throughout the nation, and plan to utilize my experience to bring culturally responsive services to our students and staff. When I’m not at work, it’s likely you will find me at a ballpark watching my boys play baseball, football, soccer, or basketball.
We also welcomed our 3rd son to our family in January this year. Looking forward to working with you all and getting to know each of you as well!"
