LMS Peer Leadership Student Baylee Baragary Champions Health and Wellness for Lansing USD469
As part of health and wellness awareness in Lansing USD469, Peer Leadership student Baylee Baragary has taken the initiative to share valuable tips and insights throughout the school year. As part of this initiative, Baylee will be providing our community with practical tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Baylee's first submission is the following health tip, quote, and recipe:
Mrs. Bishop's Health Class Smoothie Recipe
2 cups of frozen fruit (your choice)
2 tablespoons of milk
1 banana
Optional) 1 tablespoon flax seed
(For thinner smoothies, add more milk)
Instructions: add all ingredients to a blender and blend.
Health quote
"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." -Jim Rohn
Health tip
Be physically active for 30 minutes every day for the whole week.
"We discussed including health and wellness tips in a newsletter at our first district Health and Wellness meeting, with the intention of incorporating student input," said Mrs. Jennifer Bishop, the Peer Leadership sponsor and PE Teacher at Lansing Middle School. "I asked my Peer Leaders if someone would like to volunteer for this role, suggesting the inclusion of a healthy recipe, a health quote, and/or a health tip. Baylee enthusiastically chose to share my smoothie recipe from our 7th-grade Health class nutrition lesson."
As a Peer Leader, Baylee joins a group of 22 students who have chosen to lead their peers within the school community. The application process for the peer leadership position includes:
- Maintaining grades of C or above.
- Obtaining three teacher recommendations.
- Submitting an essay.
- Securing parental approval to forego study hall in favor of this graded course.
Peer Leadership is more than a class; it's an opportunity for students to impact their school environment.
"As part of their grade, students do various 'jobs' around the school/district," said Mrs. Bishop. "Some of them greet bus riders/car riders in the morning, lead tours for new students, or do a quote of the day."
Over the years, the program has introduced a range of initiatives to enhance school spirit and foster a culture of kindness and appreciation. From establishing a school store to offering tutoring services and spreading uplifting quotes, these leaders are leaving their mark.
Fantastic job, Baylee, our peer leaders, and Mrs. Bishop!
