Update from Lansing High School Students and Graduates Enrolled in KCKCC PCC
Lansing USD 469 is proud to highlight our Lansing High School students and graduates enrolled in Kansas City Kansas Community Center Pioneer Career Center (KCKCC PCC). Below is our weekly update on our Lansing High School student activities at KCKCC:
HVAC Update - Brazing

Construction - Cutting Boards
Construction students made custom cutting boards. Students cut wood and ran the wood through the planer to create a smooth and parallel surface on both sides. Students cut the wood to size, arranged accent pieces to create a pattern, glued the boards together, smoothed both sides through the planer, cut the sides to the final length, and sanded. The final step was applying mineral oil to protect the wood.

Culinary - Snickerdoodle Cookies
Baking students worked in pairs to make snickerdoodle cookies. Snickerdoodle is a type of cookie made with flour, fat, sugar, and salt and rolled in cinnamon sugar.

Construction - Cutting and Setting Stakes and Tying Rebar
Construction students learned how to cut and set a stake. Construction stakes, sometimes called grade stakes, are guides and reference markers for earthwork operations to show cuts, fills, drainage, alignment, and boundaries for construction areas.
They are also learning how to tie rebar. The snap tie is the most common, which is wrapping the tie wire around the rebar at a 45-degree angle and then snapping it into place. Other methods are the saddle tie, saddle, and wrap and the figure eight tie.
