January 2022 Transportation Department Employee Spotlight - Jay Carey
As part of the monthly report to our Board of Education, Transportation Director Jim Slapper includes an employee spotlight. We are excited also to be featuring these employees on our website and social media.
For January 2022, Mr. Slapper is featuring Mr. Jay Carey.
"Jay is 70 years old and was born in Ottawa, Kansas. Jay graduated from the University of Kansas in 1976 with a degree in Photojournalism. After graduating, he and his wife moved to Leavenworth, where Jay’s wife worked as a teacher at Leavenworth High School. Jay went to work in 1978 for the Leavenworth Times as a photographer, where he worked for five years. In 1983, Jay began working at Fort Leavenworth as a photographer. On the side, he was a freelance photographer, shooting weddings, graduations, and family photos. In 1997, Jay opened his own Photography business in downtown Leavenworth. He was open for business for over ten years. Due to the advancements in digital photography, Jay decided to begin a new career as a School Bus Driver.
Jay has been driving for USD 469 for the last ten years. He enjoys driving the bus, interacting with the students, and meeting new people in the district. When Jay takes activity trips, he takes pictures of the student-athletes and shares them with the district. His pictures are legendary."
