March 18, 2020 6:00 pm A message from Superintendent Dan Wessel regarding COVID-19
Lansing Families,
Our administrative team worked hard today on our plans moving forward in our school district. Our focus was “Bridging the Gap to a Successful 2020-2021 School Year.” Replacing the rich learning environments in our schools is not the focus of our “Continuation of Learning” plan. It is to provide students and families the necessary resources of time, energy and effort to be successful in new learning opportunities the rest of this year and more importantly the future.
Teaching and Learning
Today the district admin team met to review what we know now and potential plans on how to proceed with pre-K-12 learning the rest of the semester. At 5pm guidelines will be released from the KSDE task force on “Continuation of Learning.” Tomorrow morning the district admin team will meet with the Lansing Education Association (8:30am) and then the District Leadership Team (DLT) will meet at 10am. All available Building Leadership Team (BLTs) members will plan to meet, most likely Thursday afternoon or sometime Friday (they will email members). After BLTs meet, they will send more information out to their building colleagues about what the next 2 weeks will look like. These groups will be tasked with developing our own district plan for the “Continuation of Learning.” We are looking at our plan being ready for rollout to our families on March 30, 2020. We will update daily as we work on what this looks like for our Lansing Families. We will have plans for both online access and information provided to families that do not have access.
Medicine Pickup
Our school nurses plan on having student medicine available for pickup on Monday from the hours of 4PM-6PM at the respective school. More information to come about the pickup procedures. We will plan on this being a drive-through experience at each building. We will send out the map for pickup on Friday of this week.
Student Materials
We are working on a plan to compile and pickup of all student belongings and materials at the school. We will plan on student belongings to be available March 27, 2020. More information will be available on the pickup times for the school next week.
School Playgrounds
All of our school playgrounds are closed starting tomorrow. We will be locking the gates to limit access. It is important to keep your kids as isolated at this time. Today during the day there were numerous times that groups of students walked by the district office. Please realize that the only way to slow the spread is to practice the social distancing standards that are put out by the CDC.
School Activities
All Kansas State High School Activities Association regular season and post-season spring activities have been cancelled.
We will continue to work hard as a community and we will get through this together!
