Dr. Penrose's "Name It, Claim It": LHS Science Teacher Dr. Anne Krebs - Robotics Class
There are incredible lessons, projects, and opportunities for students throughout Lansing High School. To share these initiatives, Dr. Penrose sends an all-staff email with pictures of an assignment, project, or activity and titles it "Name It, Claim It." The teacher responsible then replies to all staff to briefly explain what the unit is, what they are doing, and any reactions. The email allows teachers to visit other teachers' classrooms virtually and start conversations about student learning, cross-curricular activities, and differentiation.
The November 3rd "Name It, Claim It" highlighted Science Teacher Anne Krebs's Robotics lesson:
"The Robotics class and the Engineering Design & Development classes are finishing up their proposals for the Battle of the Brains competition. Each group is responsible for proposing a new exhibit that will be built at Science City. From the hundreds of proposals submitted by K-12 students, one will be chosen and added to Science City in 2025.
This group of students was filming one of the two videos required for the proposals: a commercial and a video describing careers related to their exhibit.
This project-based learning program is a great experience for all students with the many submission requirements that include written descriptions, graphics, materials lists, floor plans, and billboard designs. Working in a group allows students to be part of a bigger project while working to individual strengths."
