Mr. Yoakam's Students Conquer a Ping Pong Ball Challenge through Creative Problem-Solving
On Friday, August 18th, 7th and 8th-grade students in Mr. Josh Yoakam's Advanced Studies classes completed a STEM lesson with a "Ping Pong Ball Challenge." The lesson allowed students to utilize creative problem-solving skills with limited resources to accomplish a task.
The goal of the "Ping Pong Ball Challenge" was to design and build an apparatus to transport a ping pong ball from the floor to a bowl. They were to complete the challenge with only a paper towel, a craft stick, three toothpicks, and one foot of scotch tape.
This exercise fostered creative problem-solving and underscored the remarkable outcomes achievable with minimal resources when students are guided to Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, and Test.
Wonderful work by Mr. Yoakam and students!
