January is Board of Education Recognition Month! Board Member Spotlight: Pete Robinson
January is School Board Appreciation Month! Please join us as we show appreciation to our school board members for volunteering their time and advocating on behalf of every child in our community. We will be featuring each school board member on the website throughout the month.
Today's spotlight will be on newly elected board president Pete Robinson.
Mr. Robinson was born and raised in Bellingham, Massachusetts. As a high school student, the State Board of Education selected him to be the student delegate to the 1982 Massachusetts State Board of Education, which started his experience in education. He spent 23 years in the United States Air Force. In 2004, after retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Robinson moved to the Lansing area to accept a position as an Army Special Security Officer at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. This year will mark his 40th year of service to the United States of America.
Mr. Robinson was elected to the Lansing USD469 School Board in 2019 and appointed President during the January 2022 board meeting. Mr. Robinson said service to our community is vital and has volunteered in numerous roles throughout his lifetime. While in the Air Force, he was issued the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, an award given to service members who have volunteered over 500 hours in 24 months. After retirement, he continued to volunteer as a resident of Lansing, serving as the Lansing Parks and Recreation Baseball Commissioner. He has also coached baseball, basketball, and football. Mr. Robinson was a registered Boy Scouts of America (BSA) leader for over ten years. A graduate of the BSA Wood Badge Course, he has led programs at both the Cub Scout and Boy Scout level. As a Christian, he has been a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and Awana leader.
Mr. Robinson is married to the love of his life, a local girl, Barbara (Scheele) Robinson. Mrs. Robinson has taught for 32-years and is currently a Second Grade Teacher at Lansing Elementary School. They have three children - Kaitlin, Shaun (deceased), and Joshua, a 2017 graduate of Lansing High School and a 2021 graduate of the
The University of Saint Mary. They have one grandchild, Robby.
"I serve on the board to support the students of Lansing. It is the most difficult job I have ever had."
