How many Lunches Have Been Served?
Lunches have gone well, a big thank you to everyone that has been helping. The regulations have been relaxed, and we no longer have to keep track of names. We only need to tally the number of breakfasts and lunches we serve.
The week of March 30th so far:
Monday: 401 Meals – Average Time to get through the line was 3.5 minutes.
Tuesday: 375 Meals - Average time to get through the line was 1 minute and no backups on Ida.
Please contact Lisa Gorski, lisa.gorski@usd469.net. She is organizing our volunteers. We can use some volunteers at lunch prep if you are interested.
What are the requirements to volunteer to help prepare the food?
We are asking all our volunteers to follow the guidelines below:
- Make sure you put us in your calendar and SHOW UP!
- Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow time to get situated (purse put away or get hairnet on) before you are to clock in.
- Hair must be completely pulled back and enclosed in a hairnet or hat. If you have a beard we have hairnets for them as well, just ask. They are reusable, so please keep and reuse.
- No long fingernails, fingernail polish, or fake nails.
- No chewing gum.
- No jewelry. For example, dangling earrings, watches, necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. Wedding band may be worn if it is a plain band only.

- Clean clothes and a hairnet/hat are required.
- Comfortable, non-slip shoes are a must.
Food Supplements
On Friday, April 3, 2020, we should have a family non-perishable food supplement for your family during the lunch pickup. Calvary Baptist Church has worked hard to provide these for our families this week! We will provide these until we run out.
We are currently looking at the possibilities for yearbook distribution for the Elementary and Intermediate schools. The yearbooks will be available from the manufacturer sometime in late May. We will assess the situation at that time and make a determination about distribution. If you are moving or have any questions, please feel free to contact the yearbook committee at LansingPTAyearbook@gmail.com.

Older iPad says SeeSaw not supported, what do I do?
If you have a Kindergarten or Second Grade student, the school iPad might say it needs an update. If you say ok, the iPad should continue to function to run Seesaw. It might take a little bit of time to load some of the documents, but I have tested on a second grade iPad and was able to post, type, and comment. Some have also had the iPad glitch and go back to the home screen. Try restarting the iPad - this clears out memory and helps with the functionality.
Please take some time to look at the Video Q&A from Lansing High School.
Will we start school on March 24, 2020?
The short answer is no. Our Continuous Learning Plan will be ready on March 30, 2020.
The Lansing School District will be taking the week of March 23, 2020 to develop our Continuous Learning Plan for the remainder of the year. Our Continuous Learning Plan will define how we deliver education to our students for the rest of this school year. Continuous Learning will include a combination of online and packet learning. Our teachers are taking this week to develop our plans, and we will communicate updates later this week. Our goal is to start implementing the new learning plans the week of March 30, 2020. Teachers will be calling you this week to ask some questions from a survey about online and device access.
The Continuous Learning Plan will not look like education in the classroom, nor are we trying to replicate what we have done in the classroom. We will provide materials, videos, online face-to-face time, phone calls to help, wellness checks, etc. USD469 will try our best to support families during this time, and our goal is to provide a normal learning routine for our students. We will work hard on the connections necessary for students to be successful. Our goal is to bridge the gap to a successful 2020-2021 school year.
What is the best way to stay informed?
The best way to stay informed about COVID19 updates at USD469 is to download our app for your mobile device. Directions on how to download the device for Android and iOS can be found at https://www.usd469.net/vnews/display.v/ART/5d791a2423602?in_archive=1. All of our updates are posted on the website. Additionally, we also post the Leavenworth County Health Department notices.
What if I need a device for my student?
All students in grades 6-12 should have taken their device home before break. If not, please contact your building principal to let them know your student does not have their device.
When are we providing lunch?
Lunch will be provided for children ages 1-18 at Lansing Intermediate School, 509 Ida Street, Lansing, KS. Times are from 11:30-12:30, Monday-Friday. https://www.usd469.net/vnews/display.v/ART/5e750e796ab29
Kids can also walk up and pick up lunches in the same manner. We need to practice social distancing during this time. Students must pick up their food and immediately go home. We cannot have large groups congregating.
When can I pick up my child’s belongings?
We will schedule a time later when things are safer in our community. All materials students need for the Continuous Learning Plan will be provided online or through a packet of information that can be picked up. More details on the pickup of packets will be available as part of the Continuous Learning Plan that begins March 30, 2020.
When can I pick up my child’s medicine?
Medicine pickup was done on March 23 and March 27 at Lansing Intermediate School. Pickup went very smoothly during lunch pickup times on those days..

Lansing Elementary School, Lansing Middle School, and the Lansing District Office have locations where you may park your car to access our WiFi. Instructions are as followins: Attach to USD469_Guest. No password is required. For other WiFi options in our community, please click the link below: https://usd469.socs.net/vimages/shared/vnews/stories/5e750946b694b/Free%20WiFi%20COVID19.pdf We must NOT allow students to congregate at these locations.
Can I turn in my library books?
Library books can be returned during lunch pickup between 11:30-12:30. Just let them know from which school building they were borrowed.
What about graduation?
Our first goal is to make sure that students have earned their credits to graduate. Our teachers will be working hard to develop lessons that will allow students to show they have mastered the skills necessary to earn the required credits to graduate. NO DECISION has been made at this point in time about the actual ceremony, and we understand the importance of the ceremony for our school community. Many have questions about family and/or friends traveling to attend the ceremony. Please understand that at this time we do not have an answer to that question either. We haven’t moved the ceremony, but we also can’t see into the future to know how the COVID19 virus will be challenging our community at that time. We will reassess large gatherings, including graduation, as the time approaches.
Will my student receive credits for this semester?
Our goal in the Continuous Learning Plan is for the school to provide every opportunity for students to earn the credits for this semester. Lansing High School is the only school in our district where credits follow the student from year to year. In every other school in our district, our main priority is ensuring your child has learned the necessary skills to be successful for the next school year and beyond.
Lansing High School: Teachers at the high school will provide every opportunity for students to earn all credits that are currently on their schedule. This will include assignments through Canvas for students to complete, as well as opportunities for students to demonstrate they have mastered the essential standards of the course to earn the credit.
Pre-K through grade 8: All levels lower than high school will be focused on the essential standards that are needed for students to have a successful 2020-2021 school year. We use FastBridge as our universal screening tool, and we will leverage this at the beginning of next school year to assess each student’s academic needs. The screener will highlight the skill deficits each student might have that are barriers to success. Our teachers will deliver lessons and learning opportunities over the next two months that will aid students in learning the essential standards necessary to be successful into next school year.
Will my students receive credit for this school year and do I need to set up a home school for them to go on to the next grade?
We continue to receive questions about if students will receive credit for the school year. We have had some parents say that if they aren’t receiving credit, that they would home school so they could receive credit. There is no need to create a home school for them to receive credit. Teachers at the High School will provide every opportunity for the students to earn the credits that are on their schedule. This will include assignments through Canvas for the students to complete and opportunities for students to demonstrate that they have mastered enough of the essential standards of the course to earn the credit.
At grades Early Childhood-8, there is no credit to receive and we don’t have any plans to have students repeat a school year. All grades Early Chilldhood-8 will be focused on the essential standards that are needed for students to have a successful 2020-2021 school year. We use FastBridge as our universal screener and we will use this screener at the beginning of the year to best assess a student’s academic needs. The screener will allow us to know what skill deficits a student might have that is keeping them from being successful. Our teachers will be delivering lessons and learning opportunities in the next two months that will help students learn the essential standards necessary to be successful into the next school year.
