(1) Additional Positive Case of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in Leavenworth County
LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, KAN. (March 22, 2020) – The Leavenworth County Health Department is announcing (1) additional positive cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Leavenworth County. The additional cases bring Leavenworth County to (5) total positive cases. The positive cases were identified through testing sent to Quest an independent Private Laboratory.
The affected individual is a male in his 50s that had no recent travel history. Leavenworth County Health Department is working diligently to identify any close contacts of these individuals. Those that were exposed will be contacted by LVCOHD as soon as possible. The individual remains quarantined at their homes along with any family members.
All cases reported as positive have been identified in municipal cities within Leavenworth County (Leavenworth, Lansing, Tonganoxie, and Basehor). With this adding the 5th case to Leavenworth county, it is the 3rd case with no reported travel correlation. This demonstrates that individuals are being infected by transmission within the community.
“Social Distancing needs to be adhered too. The community continues to be exposed because many still are not following the orders and guidelines. If you are ill or have symptoms, the bottom line to protect the community is to stay home.” said Jamie Miller, Leavenworth County Health Officer.
The Health Department urges the public to continue to take appropriate precautions. Everyone should practice good hygiene, stay informed, practice social distancing, and limit in-person interactions. If you are experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, or other respiratory problems, call your healthcare provider or an urgent care clinic first to determine if testing is needed. If symptoms are mild, do not go to the emergency room, as this resource needs to remain available for those with the most critical needs.
