March 20, 2020 5:45pm- An Update from Superintendent Dan Wessel regarding COVID-19
COVID19 Update 3-20-2020
Continuous Learning
We received guidance on Thursday of this week from the Continuous Learning Task Force about what learning could look like for the rest of the school year. Our teams of teachers will be meeting electronically starting Monday to develop our Continuous Learning plan for the rest of the school year. This plan is part of our requirements to qualify for a waiver for the rest of our time we are required to be in session for a school year. Kansas schools are required to be in session for 1116 hours. Our development and implementation of the Continuous Learning plan will allow us to be granted a waiver for the time and not have to make up our missed hours by June 30, 2020. Our plans are due to the Kansas State Department of Education by April 8, 2020. Our goal is to have our plan together next week and begin implementing the plan March 30, 2020.
Our teachers will be looking at the most essential standards at each grade level that students still need to learn to “Bridge the Gap to a Successful 2020-2021 School Year.” USD469’s plan will include online options and access for students that don’t have digital access. Administration and teachers also met this week to agree that during these unprecedented times we would make sure that school staff have availability that would include evening and weekend times for calls or online help sessions.
