March 17, 2020 5:12pm Leavenworth County Health Department update on COVID-19
Emergency order of the Local Health Officer
The local Health Officer announced today the release of an Emergency Health Order in response to the Corona Virus (COVID19). Protective measures stated in this order are in correlation with our partnering counties of Jackson County, Missouri, Kansas City, Kansas, Johnson County, Kansas, and Wyandotte County, Kansas. At this time the Leavenworth County Health Officer has moved its community mitigation strategies to cancelling large group events and gatherings of (10) or more people, under CDC recommendations. A "gathering" does not include normal operations at spaces where persons may be in transit or coming and going individually or in groups of less than ten (10) persons.
At this time, restaurants, bars, taverns, clubs and movie theaters will be closed to the public except that any such establishments may continue to provide carryout, drive-through and delivery of food or where the establishment can maintain 10 or less persons with the proper social distance of 6’. The Health Officer will continue to monitor the situation and will reevaluate the orders on April 1.
Further the Leavenworth County Government, in response, to the President of the United States guidelines for America’s 15 days to slow the spread guidance, will have all county public buildings closed to the public until April 1. Offices will continue to be available via phone, email or other electronic media and the public is encouraged to call with questions or county related business.
These orders may change and continue to change as the situation changes within our community.
