Lansing Students Recognized by American Legion Boys State, Youth Cadet Law Enforcement and Women's Auxiliary Girls Sunflower State
Several Lansing High School students were recognized Monday, August 12th by American Legion Boys State, American Legion Cadet Law Enforcement, and American Legion Women's Auxiliary Girls Sunflower State. According to their website, these programs are dedicated to educating young men and women of Kansas the inner-workings of government through a 'Learning by Doing' atmosphere."
Lansing students did exceptionally well in the programs, earning several recognitions including Outstanding Citizens Awards for Samantha Moburg and Alyssa Weigers.
"Girls State was an enriching experience that exposed me to more government and civic engagement opportunities than I’d ever experienced in such a short amount of time," said Miss Weigers when asked about her experience. "Aside from the information I learned, I quickly adapted to the expedited election process that took place in our mock government. After miserably losing every election I ran in, I finally ran as a write in for senator in a last ditch effort to get involved and contribute to our simulation government. That ended up being a great experience for me and I am so grateful to the American Legion Auxiliary and everyone who made this experience possible!"
