Dan Wessel named Lansing Interim Superintendent
Dr. Darrel Stufflebeam recently announced that he would be retiring in July 2019, leaving huge shoes to fill in his absence. Dr. Stufflebeam has been the Lansing superintendent since July 2016. The Lansing School Board voted and named current Assistant Superintendent and Director of Technology, Mr. Dan Wessel, interim superintendent for the 2019-2020 school year. Mr. Wessel has been with the Lansing school district for the past 23 years. During his time in Lansing, he has served as a math teacher, computer teacher, assistant principal at Lansing High School, and has served as the assistant superintendent since 2011.
Jeff Martin, President of the Lansing School Board, was confident in Mr. Wessel's abilities to run the district. "Dan will do a great job as the interim superintendent. He will leverage his many years of experience within the district to keep the continuity and positive momentum the district has going forward with the school board's complete support."
"I look forward to continuing my service to the Lansing School district and community," said Mr. Wessel when asked about his thoughts on stepping into the new role. "Moving forward with our goals and initiatives set forth by the Board of Education will be our focus this year. Our students deserve all of our energy and effort to help them grow into well-informed, active members in our community."
The district will look for a permanent replacement for the superintendent position during the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. The Lansing USD469 Board of Education will decide on the process for doing so during the first semester.
