KAYs Announces Annual Food Drive and Possible Sunny Day Off (If Winter Weather Cooperates)
2019 District Food Drive
The drive will be facilitated by the Lansing High School Kays Club, sponsored by Dylan Brown.
The goal for the 5th Annual Sunny Day Off Charity Drive will be 13,500 items. This is a 500 item increase from the 4th Annual Drive, because the goal for 13,000 items was met. The items collected will be donated to the schools’ Lions Pantry and local food banks to help meet their increased needs following the recent government shutdown.
This is a district wide goal. This means that we will work in cooperation with the Elementary School, the Intermediate School, the Middle School, the School of New Beginnings, and the district office.
Dr. Darrel Stufflebeam has agreed that if the drive’s goal can be met between February 4th, 2019 and March 1st, 2019, then he, as the superintendent of USD 469, will award all students and faculty a “Sunny Day Off” to be scheduled for the end of April, so long as the district has not reached the limit of snow/bad weather days.
Pick-up and Counting
The first can pick up from the schools will be February 14th. High School Kays Club members will travel to the five other buildings (LES, LIS, LMS, NB, DO) in the district to count the cans collected by that building. The Kays members also collect the cans and bring them back to Lansing High School for storage. School Administrators should make sure that all items going towards the school’s Lion’s Pantry are pulled out after counting, but before Kays members arrive to collect. Kays members will collect cans from the five locations on four dates:
February 14, 21, 28, & March 1, 2019.
